He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly, To love [a]mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
A very popular verse that seems soooo simple, 3 little things, but in truth is so hard to live by.
Micah was a prophet to the common people of Old testament times. The Law was in place but the Kings of Israel were not always obedient. The people thought the answer to their sin problem was more sacrifice, but the Lord had made it clear years earlier that he wanted people who were merciful, kind and humble.
Does this sound familiar? Aren't we walking in the same kind of culture? Most leaders worldwide are corrupt in some way, common people (that's us 🤷♀️) are for the most part out for themselves and think why can't I just go to church once a week and be blessed??
Matthew 5:7 says blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy.
One definition of mercy is to show compassion to an offender. Ouch😔. That is one of my biggest fails. I won't be mean (usually)...I'll just build a wall and sit them on the other side. Probably not what Jesus had in mind and for sure not what He did for me.
Why can't I just let it go? Why do my eyes glaze over when I have to deal with certain people? Why even after years in some cases does that wall still prop up when I see them?
Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom.
Pride. That's the answer to those questions. I'm choosing pride and dishonor over humility and wisdom. It's a struggle I have to overcome but how?
Galatians 5:16 says But I say walk by the spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
The flesh wants to punish the person in front of me. The spirit wants me to show them mercy. If I will be obedient and crucify my flesh and let the Spirit lead I can gain victory. That power is within me. The more I press in the more I will be able to hear His voice.
If you struggle with this too let's Colossians 3:16 this thing!
From The Message
Colossians 3:12-14 So, Chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's our basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.
Let's encourage each other to be the best dressed in the crowd.
Love Ya'll😘
