Hebrew 12 says this "Therefore since we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God's absolute faithfulness] stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, [looking away from all that distracts us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the author and perfector of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the one who brings our faith to maturity] who for the joy [of accomplishing a goal] set before him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Jesus did this by staying focused. Het set his own fleshly feelings and hurts aside, and focused on the big picture. He was convinced and full of faith that doing what God had called Him to do, would bring Glory to God and bless everyone that saw and knew.
Throwing off all that hinders you brings the flesh in submission [means you have to dig down deep and change some things with in you didn't think you would need to change.] This makes room for the characteristics of God. One can't live with the other. We want the power in our life. The power of God. His power acts through love and humility.
