Bitterness and Unforgiveness

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

This scripture is a fantastic one. We all want to be in that place. Where God gives us the desires of our hearts. We are made to dream. To think big. God is a God of great creation. He created the heavens and the earth. And he made us in his likeness. I’m not saying that we are God. I’m saying that he put something in each of us, and that thing was not made to be stagnant. He desires us to press into him more to see the treasures he has within us.

There are so many that never see their desires come to pass. There are people that have been praying for situations for years. That have had a passion within them for years but they have not got an answer.

Then you have scriptures like in Hebrew 12. It says to throw off all the sin that so easily entangles and run the race that God has placed before you. There are so many things that can so easily entangle you. We are going to start with what I call an epidemic. The epidemic is bitterness and unforgiveness. It is division among the people These two plagues so many areas in and outside the church.

living in peace gives your peace of mind

The Word of God is about peace, love, wholeness, and holiness. The scripture says that we should “make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy: Without holiness no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrew 12:14) Live in Peace comes from the Greek word Eirene. It means peace of mind, wholeness, when all essential parts are joined together. It is obvious that bitterness causes division. It causes strife. It causes people to look through a distorted lens. It’s a foothold for Satan to get into every area of your life. That division causes destruction. The words says a kingdom divided against itself will not stand.

God has called us to be joined together. To make every effort to do so. This means that we need to stand together, to pray together, to believe together. When we fall short, we need to forgive and make sure that bitterness and unforgiveness does not take root. I don’t desire for any family or city or country to be divided. We are to stand on the cornerstone that is Christ. He is the foundation. He is the one who helps and shows us how to walk through situations that on our own we would not be able to stand.

We have a guest speaker come to talk to us on the podcast Into the Waters. She will be speaking about her own journey to forgiving others, forgiving herself, and allowing God to bring back her joy.
