Have you ever been suspicious of other intentions for your life? I did not realize how suspicious I was until someone close to me pointed it out. I was talking out some things with her and she said just that. She said you only let people get so close. She said you question people’s intentions and motives on your life.
This is not necessary a bad thing, but then again it is. Not letting people close causes an invisible wall around you that keeps you in and everyone else out. This is what Satan desires. We were made for relationship with God, and with His people. Seclusion causes us to disconnect.
There was this thought I had the other day. I envisioned a line of people walking through a field holding hands. They were in unity walking through the high grasses field. Their intentions were to look for a missing person. So, they would not miss a spot they connected hands and walked forward. (I'm pretty sure I read this in a book or saw it in a cartoon or something, but the Lord did bring it up out of nowhere to me.)
This is what happens when we stay united. Rather it be in a marriage or a church or a group of friends. Really, the whole "church" as a whole needs to be united. So there is no disconnect. So we don’t miss what the Lord has for us as a whole and individually.
The word says in First Corinthians 13:7 it says in the amplified version "Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening]."
That scripture speaks volumes to me right now because it clearly points out that we are going to have to be intentional about looking at the best in people. That no one is going to have it all together all the time. When we pay attention to the best in people, hope for the best, and endure all things we can stay connected. We seem to pay attention to the worst then disconnect from them all together. Not having anything to do with them. When in reality, even the ones that have done you wrong or in obvious sin needs the God’s love shown to them even more. We are God’s hands and feet. We are who people see.
In conclusion, yes guard your heart. Guard what you allow yourself to see and hear. But pray to God to help you see the best in others. To connect with like minded believers, but with those that need YOU. You have a ministry and a purpose. You have people that you can reach out to that the rest of us can’t. Lock arms with others and spread the gospel so that we don’t miss anyone or any opportunity.
